Die jüngste filmische Produktion des österreichischen Künstlers und Filmemachers Edgar Honetschläger sowie eine Serie großformatiger Zeichnungen, die in Zusammenhang mit seinem neuesten Spielfilm Los Feliz entstanden ist, stehen im Zentrum der Ausstellung im 21er Haus. Los Feliz wird am Abend der Eröffnung im Blickle Kino im 21er Haus uraufgeführt, screenings finden einmal täglich statt.
„Die, die Bilder machen, regieren die Welt“ ist das Leitmotiv des Films, der das einstige Zentrum der filmischen Produktion – Rom – mit dem von heute verbindet: Los Angeles. Ähnlich wie die biblische Genesis verfügt auch dieser Film über eine Sieben-Tage-Struktur. Eine junge Italienerin, der Teufel und eine japanische Shintō-Göttin fahren in einem alten Mercedes Benz von Rom durch ein gezeichnetes und gemaltes Amerika bis nach L.A. – eine Reise, die sich in den großen grafischen Arbeiten der Ausstellung nachvollziehen lässt. Von drei Kardinälen in Bewegung versetzte riesige Bühnenbilder und gezeichnete Kulissen deklinieren dabei die klassische Ikonografie amerikanischer Road Movies. Es ist ein Märchen, sowohl Komödie als auch Tragödie, das mit Humor und Ironie die globale Omnipräsenz von westlichen Bildwelten und Hollywood-Filmen nachzeichnet und dabei dennoch sich selbst und das Genre Road Movie nicht allzu ernst nimmt.

This exhibition and accompanied film screenings will focus on the most recent production of Austrian artist and filmmaker Edgar Honetschläger. A series of large-scale drawings and objects relating to the fiction film Los Feliz will be presented in the 21er Haus while the movie can be watched once daily at the Blickle Kino.
“Those who make pictures rule the world” is the proposition of this movie, which connects the former center of picture production – Rome – with that of today: Los Angeles. Like Genesis in the Bible, the film has a seven-day structure. A young Italian girl, the devil and a Japanese Shinto goddess take a trip in an old Mercedes Benz from Rome through a painted and drawn U.S.A. to L.A., as reproduced in the large drawings on display. By means of huge rolling backdrops (moved by three cardinals) and drawn sets, the classic iconography of American road movies is laid out. It is a fairy tale, comedy, and drama that caricatures the global omnipresence of Western imagery and Hollywood pictures with humour and irony, without forgetting to make fun of itself, the illusion film, and the genre road movie.
