Special exhibition in the Deutsches Filmmuseum from 1st July 2015 to 31st January 2016
The innovative exhibition investigates the reciprocal relations between films and video games: how do films and games influence each other aesthetically and thematically, where do the basic similarities and differences lie and which developments are common to both? With which methods do films and games create their visual worlds? How do they generate their moments of suspense? What are the creative and artistic possibilities that emerge from this reciprocal influence?
At the centre of the exhibition are twenty large-format projections of excerpts from films and games, offering a sensory portal with which to access both media. Here the visitors may undertake a direct comparison between the aesthetics, effect and content resources of computer games and films.
Several games may be played at seven interactive stations, including Indiana Jones, Lego Star Wars, Tomb Raider, Psychonauts, Bit Trip Beat and FEZ. The moving images are complemented by objects such as design sketches, materials from the production process of games, an arcade automat and many collector’s items.
