A small number of itinerant arcanists were responsible for the spread of the closely guarded secret of the manufacture of porcelain throughout Germany. The most successful of these was Joseph Jacob Ringler. He left Vienna In 1747 having learned the secrets of kiln construction and the Arcanum through a friendship with the daughter of the director of the factory. Ringler was directly responsible for the establishment of at least six factories before finally ending his long career at Ludwigsburg.
Errol Manners: Errol Manners is a London based Dealer in European ceramics. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and was chairman of The French Porcelain Society from 2007 to 2015. He serves on numerous Vetting Committees including Tefaf Maastricht, Art Antiques London, Masterpiece and The Bienale des Antiquaires, Paris.
