This is an excerpt of the futurist opera Victory Over the Sun, which was presented at Theater Basel in June 2015, as a kind of preview of the comprehensive exhibition of art by Kazimir Malevich and the Russian Avant-Garde at Fondation Beyeler in Riehen (Basel, Switzerland). The opera was first performed in St. Petersburg in 1913. Its creators were composer Mikhail Matyushin, the poets Alexey Kruchonych and Velemir Khlebnikov, and the artist Kazimir Malevich. The opera featured numerous innovations in the realms of music, poetry, set and costume design. The production was created in 2013 by the Stas Namin Theatre in Moscow in cooperation with the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
Die Fondation Beyeler widmet dem bedeutenden Einfluss von Kasimir Malewitsch eine Ausstellung, die von 4. Oktober 2015 bis 10. Januar 2016 zu sehen ist. Gezeigt werden Malereien, Skulpturen, Installationen und Aktionen von insgesamt 36 Künstlern. Mit der Ausstellung «Black Sun» wird Malewitsch eine Hommage gewidmet, in der Bezüge und Spannungsverhältnisse zwischen bedeutenden Künstlern und Malewitsch und dem Schwarzen Quadrat gezeigt werden. Unterschiedliche Aspekte der Kunst des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts sollen beleuchtet werden.
