For the latest edition of our Instagram Live Talk series, director Mateo Kries welcomed designer Hella Jongerius. She is one of the most influential designers of our times, fusing art with industry, high- with low-tech and tradition with contemporary. With her studio Jongeriuslab, founded in 1993, Jongerius has been working for major clients including Maharam, KLM, Vitra and the United Nations. Her ground-breaking research into weaving, colours and craft techniques has pushed the envelope of design industry over the past 30 years, combining elements of contemporary art with experimental research and material engineering. Her work is currently on show in several exhibitions, including the recently opened “Woven Cosmos” at Gropius Bau in Berlin. Together with Mateo Kries, Hella Jongerius discussed her inspirations and design approaches, and why it is so important for designers to develop a unique artistic vision.
